The History of the Pacific Cement PTE Limited

Registered on 4th December 1961, Pacific cement limited formerly known as FIJI INDUSTRIES LIMITED is fully owned by local giant Fijian Holdings Limited and supported by multinational partners Holcim and Fletchers of New Zealand..

In 1962 plant operation commenced after successful commissioning as a wet process kiln with production capacity of 150 tonnes of clinker per day. Later, in 1969 the existing kiln was upgraded to increase the production capacity of clinker to 270 tonne per day.

During 1974 as a result of the rising price of imported oil, a change over from oil firing to coal firing was implemented and coal grinding was done using a ball mill. In 2004 local clinker production was substituted by imported clinker with cement production capacity of 600 tonnes per day.

From a predominantly original foreign ownership Pacific Cement has now become a locally controlled company with a 51% shareholding by Fijian Holdings Limited.
